Scottsdale, Arizona

The Scottsdale city council meets*. The air is poisonous, stores are on fire, and the the college basketball season has been cancelled. People are rioting in the streets demanding the resignation of the Scottsdale’s mayor along with the rest of the bureaucrats. Mayor Lane angrily shouts at the council, “What the heck are we gonna do?”. The council is silent. Most of them are on their phones. Some are aimlessly starting into space. Mayor Lane feels screwed. He adjourns the meeting.

His next appointment is with Gabriella, head of the nurses union. She berates Lane on the status quo of low pay and horrible working hours for nurses. Just as Gabby’s about to castrate Lane, she mentions the poor care of a woman who is about to turn 105 years old.

“…and the resources the city has provided are not enough to take care of her!”

“Holy moly… She’s 105! My Gran-gran wasn’t even lucid at 80”

“How disrespectful! I’ll have you know she has served our country!”

Amazing. A veteran! Mayor Lane’s gears are turning. He might be able to stay in office after all. He’ll just need the right story.

City honors woman on her 105th birthday

Mayor Lane proclaimed Aug. 25 as “Athena Wright Day.” There was a drive-by distance parade at Pueblo Norte Assisted Living. It included the American Legion Post, Scottsdale Fire, Library, Police, Solid Waste, and Water departments. I’m pretty happy about it; in my opinion, you can never have too many days celebrating veterans.
